Recently at the range, I loaned my 50gr powder measure to a friend and when I went to my target to check my results, he had packed up his gear and taken my powder measure. As a result, when I got home, I took my drill and a 1/2" drill bit and drilled an access hole for a 50gr. powder charge in the Elk Antler Handle. I've since drilled an 80gr. hole I my larger short starter for my 54 cal. Hawken. Modify, adapt and overcome !!!

Very well made, fits your hand well. I prefer the brass rod one. Have ordered 2 brass tipped ones. One for my wife and one for the trading blanket. Shipped quickly, good place to order supplies and try some new things. I will recommend shopping here to friends.

First one sent was wrong leg but October County made the switch smooth and easy, very pleasant to do business with (hey, I make mistakes too).
I LOVE IT! Very solid, and very rugged, can't wait to get out to the range!

The brass antler handled short starter is well made and looks like it will survive years of use.
I should be field testing it soon. It should perform as well as the other short starters I've purchased from October Country.

I bought this starter to replace one with the round knob. Issue was my aftermarket brass ramrod required a cupped loading jag be used on the end, so the starter knob would hit the jag when loading. Because of the shape of this antler starter,it is a great problem solver.
I opted for the brass legs. The quality is excellent. I am 100% pleased.
