October Country is making two great Maxi Balls. They are a pure lead bullet with a super effective hunting bullet design. Not lubed. This is the preferred bullet of experienced hunters because you can use your lube of choice. They are accurate, hard hitting and deliver knock down power. The hard to find .58 cal bullet weighs 580 grains and has a .585 diameter. Made in the USA by October Country, a manufacturer of muzzleloading supplies.
Small items or small orders are shipped through the Post Office are sent in a flat rate box or in a first class padded envelope for $3.25 to $12.50. I have been using Hornady 58 caliber plains conicals but they are no longer produced and my supply is running out. Needed another option and quickly realized that 58 cal molds from Lyman or TC are hard to find. Next option was a search for the maxi conicals as a couple of companies still cast them. October Country had the best price/shipping combination available. Ordered 200 and received very quickly. Casting is correct with no issues. I will do an update as soon as I fire some from my TC Big Boar. As long as they group properly I will be back for more.

I have not used these in the 54 cal. Hawken I bought them for yet, but, I used to make and use these in the old days for my 45 cal. I have killed a couple of deer and these were quite accurate and deadly. I ordered these because they are not something carried in shops in my area. I did give the bag a once over ocular look and all these seem well cast, as opposed to what others have said.

As the title states, I killed a nice bull elk with the 430 gr .54 cal. The reason why I didn't give this product a full 5 stars is because not all of the bullets were carefully molded to tight specs so some of them were lopsided, poured in a cool mold, or poured in a different mold. This made me pick through the bag and shoot the good ones and throw away the crappy ones. But the individual bullets I was happy with worked well and did the job.
